Grotesqueness of Joust
April 30th, 2020
Starring: Peasants 1, 2, 3 (Male)
Medieval times. The era, not the dine-in entertainment. Three peasants (dressed in dirty tunics) lean on a fence, facing the jousting field (the audience).
Trumpet sounds. The beginning. The peasants look at each other, grinning with anticipation.
They watch and wait, with the most serious of intent. None of them blink, or even breathe.
The joust begins. The peasants begin a slow drum roll on the fence. It starts slow and quiet, then builds, like football fans before a kickoff:
PEASANTS
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
We watch their heads follow the action.
Impact. The peasants recoil, each in their own version of giddy shock and awe.
Silence, for a moment.

They group hug. They exit to their wives and children.
