Fools

July 14th, 2020

Starring: Jingle & Jangle (20-35)

The castle parapet, night.  Jingle and Jangle, in full Jester garb, sit on the wall.  They each hold their own pipes, occasionally taking hits from them.

JANGLE

You never smoke my stuff.

JINGLE

Your stuff gets me all jittery. Mine does the opposite.

JANGLE

Mine calms me down.

JINGLE

Because you’re a spaz.

JANGLE

You’re a spaz.

JINGLE

Only because I have to be.  I’m not naturally like that.

JANGLE

You have a court residency.  You’re a natural, believe me.

JINGLE

I don’t believe you.

JANGLE

Why not?

JINGLE

Because you’re a fool.

JANGLE

You’re a fool.

JINGLE

Only because I have to be.  I’m not naturally like that.

JANGLE

But you are.

JINGLE

No, it’s an act.

JANGLE

You’re a liar.

JINGLE

Exactly!

JANGLE

No, I mean you’re a liar.  You’re a fool.  You’re funny.

JINGLE

Obviously I’m funny.  The difference is why I’m funny.

JANGLE

Why?

JINGLE

The money, the benefits.

It’s my job, not my life.

JANGLE

It’s all I know.

JINGLE

It’s all I know.  But it’s not all I want to know.

JANGLE

You really want to retire?

JINGLE

I do.  My body’s starting to catch up to me.  My brain can’t handle it.  Things go numb.

JANGLE

I kind of like that.

JINGLE

I can go a few more years, maybe.  I’ll have saved enough by then.  I know a guy selling some non-feudal acres outside of town.

JANGLE

Then what?

JINGLE

I don’t know.  Maybe learn to read?

JANGLE

No way.

JINGLE

What about you?

JANGLE

What about me?

JINGLE

Do you have a plan?

JANGLE

I dunno

I’m more of a stay present in the now now kind of person.

JINGLE

But would you ever want to stop?

JANGLE

Nah.  I think I’d lose me.

....

Ha

That was kind of deep. I think it’s the stuff.

Want some?

JINGLE

I gotta go, actually.

Gotta be on call in case Princess has nightmares.

I’ll catch up with you later, ok?

JANGLE

For sure for sure.  Anytime.

Jingle exits.  Jangle takes another hit.

You never smoke my stuff.
