An office building water cooler, next to a large window overlooking the street. A stands, sipping water next to B.
A
Sometimes in the middle of the day, I’ll play this game
I’ll think about someone
Like an old mild celebrity
Or a noname athlete from my childhood
Or someone outside my window
And I’ll think about what they’re doing. Or have been doing. Or what they’ve been doing to live.
B
Do you ever search and see? You can find everything about people now.
A
Never.
B
I’d be too curious to not.
A
Not if you knew what I come up with.
B
Care to share?
A
I can’t. It would ruin the illusion.
…
B
Now I’m having illusions of what you could be imagining.
A
It’s fun, right?
B
It does make me feel like I know something.
A
But don’t tell me.
B
Oh no, I won’t.
...
B points to someone outside the window.
B
Ok.
Them.
Let’s play.
They stare at the person outside. Their heads follow them. Soon enough, they each think of their illusion. They look back at each other and start laughing to themselves, softly.
