The End

July 26th, 2020

Starring: Writer 1, Writer 2

A coffee shop, or somewhere writers meet:

WRITER 1

Amir tells me you’re on the last part.

WRITER 2

I am.

WRITER 1

You’re almost done!  That’s exciting.

WRITER 2

I haven’t thought about how it ends.

WRITER 1

No?

WRITER 2

I never think about the end until the end.

I feel like I’m going to bungle it.

WRITER 1

I doubt that.

WRITER 2

How many endings are ever truly satisfying to you?

WRITER 1

Very few.  Isn’t that relieving?

WRITER 2

Not at all.  It makes me more terrified that mine might be one of them.

WRITER 1

Then you’ll just be like everyone else.

WRITER 2

Who wants that?

WRITER 1

You’d be surprised.

WRITER 2

What about cliff-hangers?  Or dotdotdots?

WRITER 1

They work, but they aren’t endings to me.  It feels like the person just didn’t know.

WRITER 2

Exactly, it’s cheap!  But it’s tempting.

WRITER 1

Incompletion is a strong addiction.  It’s always right there.

WRITER 2

Yes.

It is.

It really really is…
