1
I’ve been thinking through this theory for a while now.
2
Another one?
1
Having multiple stimulates my brain. It’s like chewing two different flavors of gum at once.
2
You probably do the same thing at soda fountains.
1
Of course I do the same thing at soda fountains.
2
How did we ever become close?
1
Because you engage.
2
I do, that’s true.
…
Go on.
1
I think more creative people have more creative dreams. And vice versa.
2
That’s a thought. But it feels impossible to prove.
1
It’s provable that some people are more creative than others. They have brain scans. You can see which areas of the brain are more active.
2
That’s a telling measure. But you can’t say one person is unequivocally more creative than another.
1
Is a harpist not more creative than a bank teller?
2
By virtue of their jobs. But the bank teller might be a very creative person who happens to work as a bank teller.
1
Even so, I still think it’s fair to say that there is a varying spectrum of creativity among humanity, and to a certain extent, it’s provable.
2
Fair enough.
1
So let’s say we took an objectively creative person, and an objectively less creative person, had them dream in the same conditions, and you and I could track their brains and the dreams they dreamed. Do you think there’d be a difference?
2
In the creativity of their dreams?
1
Yes. If we can prove that one conscious brain is more creative than another, then by association, the same subconscious brain should be more creative than its counterpart, ergo, dreaming more creative dreams.
2
How would you define a more creative dream? By setting? Character? Situation?
1
The breadth, the depth, the detail. Everything.
2
That’s where you lose me. A dream’s creativity, like a piece of art, is subjective, and relative to the person living it. I can stand by comparing brain activity metrics during sleep, and I don’t deny there might be data to support your theory, but comparing the creative content of dreams proves nothing. The experiment would say more about the brain’s creative ability to articulate the dreams they had, not the actual creative validity of the dreams themselves.
Even if there were “good dreams” and “better dreams,” there would be know way to know for sure.
1
But if you could know, wouldn’t you want to?
…
2
No. I don’t see much good in adding hierarchy to subconsciousness.
1
Mm.
I guess that’s what makes us different.
2
One of many.
2 stifles a big yawn.
2
Well then. I think that’s my cue.
...
Goodnight.
2 exits towards bed.
1
Sweet dreams.
